Our Mission
At The BART on Aviles, we strive to showcase the best and most diverse art from local St. Augustine, Florida artists, both established and emerging artists. Our mission is to provide a platform for artists to share their unique perspectives and for art lovers to discover new and exciting pieces.
At The BART on Aviles we love tourists and locals alike. Because we love our community and our locals, we offer a locals discount. Because we also love our tourists, we want to make their vacation special and offer unique experiences.
Our goal is to provide excellent wine and beer, great service, and to be a concierge for Historic St. Augustine.

A life long dream, owners Philip and Dee opened The BART to combine an Art Gallery and a Wine Bar. We represent local artists and monthly featured artist exhibitions.
Philip Castillo
Philip is a lover of art and life. Raised in an artistic family, he started his art journey in 1976 when he bought his first original piece. Being an artist and creating art came to fruition in the late 70’s – early 80’s while living in Italy where he was mentored by an American Artist, William McCoy. McCoy’s influence shaped his direction as an experimental artist. Being innovative and creative is his passion in life.
His art experience and owning a successful shop on St. George Street taught Philip all the business knowledge and understanding of St. Augustine making him a tremendous asset to
The BART on Aviles.
Dee Mahler
Dee is an artist, trained French Chef, writer, and has had a successful business career. As a child Dee dreamt of having her own restaurant one day. Although her work life took her to the business side, the dream of having her own place never faded.
Dee is a graduate of the Florida Culinary Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida with an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts. Upon graduation, Dee spent time in Paris and took some specialty classes at the world-class Cordon Bleu.
Her future goal is to take the Sommelier Examination.
Her varied experience brings the knowledge of both front and back of house making her an asset to The BART on Aviles.
